Developing the best cricket business in the world

Edgbaston is a venue unlike any other in Birmingham. It’s home to amazing events, world-class sport, and fine dining. Class have worked with Edgbaston since 2015 and are the official digital partner of the business.

We worked closely with the Edgbaston marketing team to streamline website messaging and sections to guide users on specific journey to each of the two core business areas – cricket and conference & events. The goal was to provide a site that’s easy to navigate for the Edgbaston audiences and easy to manage for the client.

Cricket

The cricket side of the website hosts information for multiple teams and we differentiate each section through the use of colour and brand style. Warwickshire CCC, Birmingham Bears, England, The Central Sparks, and Birmingham Phoenix all feature and the website includes pages and sections that display dynamic content through a range of third party APIs.

For match centre and fixture information we hooked the site up to Opta’s API. When a game is in progress in-play highlights and live match action is fed to the website via the YouTube API. Edgbaston is a large website, with an ever-growing list of news posts, players and match related information. As a result of the large amount of content we devised a repeatable module layout allowing consistency in the interface to streamline the design across different devices.

Conference & Events

Cricket might be seasonal but Edgbaston has a continuous flow of events throughout the calendar year. The admin CMS allows website editors across different Edgbaston departments to quickly edit content across both sides of the website. The conference & events side of the website hosts events by type and event space location.

In addition to the website, we have produced an internal staff Intranet, a staff onboarding platform, and an eCommerce shop which syncs up to the physical payment system used within the retail store at the stadium.
